Our Partner: Welfare for Animals Guide (WAG) Rwanda

We is non-profit, volunteer-run non-governmental organization dedicated to improving the health and welfare of dogs and the communities they live in throughout Rwanda. As our trusted partner, they are the foundation of the work we support.

Why We Do This

Everyday, millions of street dogs around the world face hunger, disease, abuse, and neglect. The root cause of their suffering is overpopulation. Without intervention, countless dogs are born into lives of hardship, with little chance of receiving proper care, shelter or love.

By focusing on spay and neuter programs, we are tackling the problem where it begins. Each surgery not only prevents future suffering but also reduces the pressure on shelters and communities already overwhelmed with abandoned animals and dogs born to the street.

Our mission goes beyond veterinary care. We aim to return to Rwanda annually to run mass spay and neuter clinics, provide critical veterinary services, and bring education into schools. Teaching children compassion and kindness toward animals is how we create last change for generations to come.

How are we trying to address these problems?

Together with local and international partners, our work spans 5 core pillars:
(1) rescue, rehabilitation and re-homing of stray and abandoned dogs
(2) community engagement and education
(3) leading local and national strategies to humanely control the dog population and eliminate rabies in Rwanda.
(4) research and advocacy on animal welfare
(5) strengthening the animal healthcare workforce in Rwanda through collaboration and training.
